CASANDRA STELEA - DANCER AND CHOREOGRAPHER
Casandra was born in Brasov, Romania, 1985. She started training in dance at the age of 15 in Latin American, Ballroom and later in Ballet. In 2003-2004 she won 6 editions of Bravo-Bravissimo, a television show which aimed to promote new and promising artists (dancers, singers and actors).
Following a very successful time in her teens and early twenties as one of Romanian's top amateur competitive Ballroom and Latin American dancers, Casandra went on to study Contemporary Dance and Choreography at the National University of Art and Drama "I.L.Caragiale" in Bucharest, and also IT at "Politehnica" University, Bucharest. While completing these two full time degrees Casandra also taught and competed in Latin American and Ballroom. She had the opportunity to work alongside reputable Romanian choreographers such as Gigi Caciuleanu, Arcadie Rusu and Attila Bordas. Between 2008 and 2010 Casandra was a member of Romanian Dance Company "Gigi Caciuleanu", with who she toured nationally and internationally.
In 2009, Casandra had the opportunity to be a choreographer at the Romanian version of Strictly Come Dancing, "Dansez pentru tine".
Casandra moved to England in September 2009 to take up a Scholarship at the University of Chichester where she studied for a Masters in Performance in Contemporary Dance, graduating in November 2010. As part of mapdance, the masters dance Company at the University of Chichester, she had the opportunity to tour the UK and to work and develop as a performer as well as a choreographer by working alongside with choreographers such as: Shobana Jeyasingh, Gregory Maqoma, Keira Martin, Colin Poole and Matthias Sperling. During her time in Chichester, she choreographed two contemporary dance pieces, Other's Moments in Self Situations (in collaboratin with actor James Eggleton) and You.and.Me both love Me (in collaboration with Kai Downham).
June 2013, Casandra undertook a 3 week residency in Bucharest, Romania as part of Jardin d'Europe Wild Cards 2013 at WASP.
